科學人雜誌NO.85的文章中(P.86)提到，杜厄提在2006中所著的「贏得諾貝爾獎的第一步」一書中分享他的座右銘：
對所有事情要抱持懷疑的態度，養成不以常規思考的習慣，勤奮工作，但要講求方法，這樣的話，只要再加上一點好運，自然就會有出乎意外的重大發現。(Accept nothing at face value and get in the habit of thinking unconventionally. Work hard, work smart and with a bit of luck, serendipity will play its part.)
